The man said he would “no longer be complicit in genocide” before setting himself on fire, according to a video circulating online
US Air The force member who set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, died on Sunday.
The soldier, who identified himself as Aaron Bushnell in a video he shot of the incident, said he would “no longer be complicit in genocide” before dousing himself in flammable liquid. He then lit a fire and repeatedly shouted, “Free Palestine!” as it burned.
Secret Service officers extinguished the fire around 1 a.m. Sunday, after which Bushnell was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities announced Monday morning that he had died. “The individual involved in yesterday's incident succumbed to his injuries and died last night,” an Air Force spokesman said in a statement. “We will provide additional details 24 hours after next of kin notifications are complete.”
