GloRilla may have been new to the VMAs, but the Memphis-born MC made an impressive debut at the MTV awards show on Wednesday (September 11) with a hard-hitting medley that proved she'd earned four nominations and her primo spot near end of the three-hour TV show.
Dressed in a floor-length black striped coat and matching baseball cap, the rapper opened with “Yeah Glo!” percussion-inspired single, which peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year, while peaking at No. 7 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and landing No. 1 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart Airplay.
With a crew of six duster-clad black leather dancers circling around her, Glo spit the powerful lyrics from the song anchoring her sophomore mixtape, Ehhhthang Ehhtangbefore the lights went down and flipped the script to dive into 2024's other hit, “TGIF.” Stripped down to a black business-casual bikini with silver accents and a tie while her long blonde ponytail whipped behind her, the MC transformed the digital cube farm behind her into a sweaty nightclub.
Walking down the table catwalk with similarly dressed dancers pounding the table, Glo turned all the way around while the women tossed funny money in the air. “Get up with my n—as/ Get back with my b—hess,” GloRilla rapped on the chorus that found Camila Cabello and Shaboozey excitedly lip-syncing in the audience as she put a twerking clinic on the opening jam. at No. 2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart in July.
She even survived a near-wardrobe malfunction near the end of the medley that had a dancer refasten her bra as Glo smiled and struck a triumphant, happy pose.
