There is no doubt Pharrell Williams had a historic fashion run in 2024. So it's only fitting for this one GQ Magazine named him Designer of the Year.
This week the gentleman's magazine began to be revealed their annual Men of the Year picks. In it, the editorial staff has crowned Skateboard P as the number one creative in the style industry. Shot by Eli Russell Linnetz, GQ captures the 'Happy' performer in his ultimate eclectic luxury form. As expected, Pharrell Williams effortlessly combines items from different Louis Vuitton collections with various vintage pieces, resulting in a shoot that produces all the senses, ranging from western to military to escapist.
Even more remarkable is his interview. Full of “Farrelism”, GQ's Global Editorial Director Will Welch caught up with him to discuss a range of topics related to his creative process. During the Q&A, Welch revealed that the Grammy Award winner was working on three different musical projects simultaneously with a dedicated engineer for each.
“I had three different rooms for three different artists. That's the way I like to cook,” Pharrell said. “I like to go from room to room, because one room reminds me that the other room is not as warm as I thought it was before I left. Going to different rooms makes you zoom out. Because you zoom in to do it, but then zoom in to judge if it's fire.'
He was later asked about his Joopiter platform where he auctioned many of his signature pieces. When asked if he was impressed that Drake bought his jewelry and then bragged about it, he simply replied, “He didn't.” When pressed further about Drizzy buying the expensive charms, he clarified that he didn't think much of it. “I guess some things are just not for me to understand. When you let things go, a huge part of it is actually letting things go,” he explained. “Not just the physical object, but leave your connection to what it's supposed to mean or the memory. You literally let them go. That was the purpose.”
