This is beautifully displayed on the Canadian beatsmith's new project, the aptly titled ETERNAL, his first solo album in five years. Spanning 21 tracks, the double album is packed with star-studded collaborations from Childish Gambino to Tinashe. But the album remains unmistakably Kaytranada throughout, imbuing her signature electro-funk style with tinges of hip-hop and vintage pop.
Opener “Pressure” is a tribute to Lupe Fiasco and Jay-Z’s 2006 track of the same name, but it takes us into an atmosphere that feels like a vibrant nightclub, neon-lit and full of energy. As the album unfolds, tracks like “Feel A Way” and “Witchy” fan the flames of this intoxicating allure with lush synths, pulsing percussion, and soulful basslines.
