It's not every day you get to see a good Mexican party on an arena stage in Miami. But fans found out during Grupo Firme's La Ultima Peda (The Last Drunk) tour stop at the Kaseya Center on Saturday (June 1).
The three-hour show felt like a giant carne asada party for 10,000 of the group's closest friends, punctuated by a norteño band, a full horn section, non-stop drinking on stage and the undeniable star power of lead singer Eduin Caz. Few, if any, Mexican music stars exude such rock and roll attitude on stage. The man can sing, dance and party hard without missing a beat.
It was Firme's second time in Miami, and the show highlighted not only the group's popularity, but the growing popularity of local Mexican music in cities that have not traditionally been hotbeds of the movement. Grupo Firme will, for example, take their US tour for more than 30 dates in Tampa, New York and Charlotte.
But the stop in Miami was special. The city holds a special place for the band, who spent several days in Miami, hosted a gathering for fans and press and found time to shoot two music videos.
On stage at Kaseya, Firme brought out not only musicians, but also dancers with tons of mood, and Caz took the opportunity to showcase his ballad/bolero vocals with an emotional rendition of the group's new single, “El beneficio de la duda. ” It was another major moment for the group that helped pave the way for the new wave of local Mexican music.
Here are five memorable moments from Grupo Firme's show at Miami's Kaseya's Center on June 1.
-
A bartender on stage
You heard that right. In addition to finding space for the band, Grupo Firme finds space for a bona fide bartender and the rule is that every guest who goes on stage gets a photo. As for Eduin Caz, his favorite drink is whiskey.
-
It's a family affair
On this tour, Caz has clarified his family priorities and was traveling with his wife and three children. Backstage before the show, Eduin Caz's oldest son, 8-year-old Gerardo, kept asking if he could go on stage and sing with his dad, which he had already done at a previous stop. In Miami, he recorded, performing “Alaska”, the hit recorded by Grupo Firme with Camilo. Gerardo brought the house down, singing and dancing to perfect choreography.

Special guests
There were many guests in the arena. In addition to the family, rising Mexican star Xavi was seen backstage, paying his respects, and Kim Loiza and Jay Di Pantoya (and their children) sat in the audience.
-
Codiciado debuts
Friend of Grupo Firme Codiciado made his debut in Miami playing on stage with the group. Firme and Codiciado have collaborated before when the singer was part of Grupo Codiciado, but the Miami show heralds a new collaboration with Codiciado as a solo act.

What happens when the bar closes?
Grupo Firme likes to ask fans to take pictures and toast throughout the show. But the Kaseya Center stopped serving alcohol around 10pm when the concert was in full swing. No problem. Eduin Caz started sharing beers with fans from the coolest group on stage.
