Hip-hop has lost another contributor to its culture. MOP affiliate Foxx has passed and her peers honor her legacy.
As mentionted with HipHopDX the Bronx, New York native has moved on. Known for her work as the group's road manager and her contributions to records such as “It's Hard To Tell”, she became synonymous with the MOP brand. Last weekend, DJ Kid Capri announced her death on social media through a very emotional Instagram post. “I went to the hospital to see you last night, what I saw made me leave the room crying, about a week ago you asked for people to come see you before August 2nd, that's when you wanted to take him out ventilator , yesterday was August 2nd, I would have regretted it so much if I didn't make it there,” he wrote.
He also went on to reveal that the two grew up together and was part of a girl rap group that he formed. “I had fun getting you, Kim, Georgia and @qtpepsi to rehearse the routines I wrote, after that you were really influenced by the music and years later connected with @famem.op @billydanzem.op the great hip hop group MOP” News of her death soon spread, prompting her peers to celebrate her life.
Longtime collaborator DJ Premier also shared his sadness. “I'm hurt in more ways than one, but your pain is gone now. Even if I saw you at the hospital on Tuesday, it sucks to get this phone call. We will all miss you so much, but the fun times are etched in our souls. You were HardCore and Sweet at the same time,” his caption read, accompanied by backstage footage of MOP and Gangstarr on tour in 1997.
Fat Joe, Chuck D, Alchemist, Royce Da 5'9″ and Cam'ron also shared their condolences online. Foxx had been battling scleroderma, an autoimmune disease, for the past 15 years. He was 55. You can see Foxx busy during an MOP performance with Busta Rhymes in 2004 below.
