Former Ozzy guitarist Jake E. Lee has revealed more details about the Las Vegas shooting that left him with three non-fatal gunshot wounds.
As originally reported, Lee was involved in a random street shooting early on October 15 near his home in Las Vegas while he was walking his dog. Fortunately, the bullets did not hit any vital organs, even though police found a full magazine of bullet casings at the scene, and the guitarist soon recovered in the intensive care unit of nearby Sunrise Hospital.
Lee is now back home to continue his recovery and took Facebook to offer the dramatic details about the shooting, which it turns out wasn't all that random. Instead, Lee revealed that he and his dog Coco had actually confronted a pair of would-be motorcycle thieves in their neighbor's driveway before the shooting.
Lee's full post, which included a photo of her heroic pup, read as follows:
“Thank you again for all your concern. A quick update: back home recovering. Many thanks to those at Sunrise Hospital for taking such good care of me. And some brief details about that night. Walking home from our walk, Coco and I ran into a couple of thieves. Dressed in dark clothes, with hoodies drawn over their faces and masks covering their mouths. Standing in a neighbor's driveway looking at his motorcycle. There was a verbal confrontation that ended with an agreement that I would walk on one side and they on the other. That didn't work. I'll probably talk in more detail about this later, but right now I can only comfortably do it a little at a time. Let me find another cute photo of Coco!
After the shooting, Lee's friend and fellow Las Vegas guitarist DJ Ashba shared a text message exchange he had with Lee while the latter was still in the hospital. “I'm one lucky son of a bitch,” Lee wrote in the caption, which reads in a whole new light considering the harrowing details of his confrontation with the shooter.
In a previous update, Lee wrote: “Police found 15 shell casings at the scene, which means he pointed his magazine at me. I could only dodge so much, so one bullet went through my forearm, another went through my foot, and another in my back broke a rib and damaged a lung.”
As of Oct. 17, Las Vegas police had made no arrests and the shooting was considered “an ongoing investigation.”
