Jake Gyllenhaal may have kept that red scarf innocent since that very first week, but in a new trailer for his new Apple TV+ series, his character Rusty Sabich is suspected of a serious crime.
On Wednesday, Apple TV+ released its trailer He is presumed innocentan eight-episode limited series launching June 12 that follows Gyllenhaal's Chicago district attorney character as he confronts and accuses him of playing a role in his colleague's murder.
The trailer follows Rusty Sabich as he learns of a woman named Carolyn who has been found dead and as he is prosecuted for her murder. “Were you and Caroline romantically involved?” prosecutors question Rusty as sex scenes play out.
“Am I a suspect?” Rusty asks. “Because I didn't kill her.”
As the trailer continues, new elements of Rusty's complicated relationship with Carolyn emerge as he faces dozens of questions about the death. “I didn't kill her,” he repeats more than a dozen times throughout the episode.
He is presumed innocent is based on Scott Turow's 1987 novel. If the prosecutor-accused-of-murdering-his-colleague case sounds familiar, Harrison Ford starred as that prosecutor in a 1990 film of the same name.
Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, OT Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Elizabeth Marvel, Nana Mensah, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard and Kingston Rumi Southwick also star in the show, executive produced by JJ Abrams.
“The series explores obsession, sex, politics and the power and limits of love as the defendant struggles to keep his family and marriage together,” reads the series synopsis.
New episodes for the show will be released every Wednesday until July 24 after the release of the first two episodes on June 12.
