Sometimes you just get a weird vibe from someone and you don't know what it is, but you just don't want to know. That's how Jelly Roll described the moment he had the chance to meet Sean “Diddy” Combs last October, when both men were guests at Jimmy Kimmel Live!but she turned down the photo shoot at the last minute for reasons she still can't explain.
Jelly was on Kimmel to perform on the Oct. 30 episode that featured Diddy as a panel guest, months before a series of shocking revelations surfaced accusing the hip-hop mogul of sexual assault and sex trafficking.
“This is the first time in my career, ever, where I've been told, 'Do you want to meet the other?' And I said, 'Yeah,' and I started walking like that,” the “Son of a Sinner” singer told the CANCELED With Tana Mongeau podcast last week after her wife Bunnie XO admitted that even though she's a conspiracy theorist at heart, she doesn't believe in the illuminati.
Asked if he's ever had a “weird” interaction with a co-worker or if he's gotten illuminati vibes from one, Jelly joked: “No one's trying to touch my butt… maybe I'm just not their type?” The refreshingly candid singer then said he had a story about weird vibes that he would probably “get in trouble” to tell, before going ahead and saying it.
“And as I was walking down the aisle — this is a true story — I was like, 'Nah,' and I went and got back in the car,” Jelly Roll said of Diddy's aborted meeting. “I don't know what it was, and I made a joke at the beginning, 'you don't want to meet the guy who killed Tupac…' And no one thought it was funny… When we were walking, I was like I don't know. Very rarely do things rub off on me in a way where I was like, “I don't even know if this is a picture I want.”
While the photo shoot didn't happen, Jelly Roll's gut about the Bad Boy Records mogul and one of hip-hop's first billionaires now seems prescient after Combs' former singer Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs alleging years of physical . abuse and rape just two weeks later. the bombshell led to a fast, private settlement within a day, the terms of which have not been disclosed.
Combs was quickly swamped with a series of similar suits, including one alleging the “gang-rape” of an unnamed teenage girl in 2003 when she was 17, as well as suits by two other women who claimed Combs sexually assaulted, drugged and DEFEATED them? Combs has vehemently denied all the allegations. As the civil lawsuits began to pile up, Combs' homes in Los Angeles and Miami were raided and searched by Homeland Security agents on March 25, according to reports linked to a sex-trafficking investigation.
Following the legal action, Combs stepped down as president of digital media company Revolt, 18 brands formerly associated with Diddy cut ties with e-commerce company Empower Global, and Hulu scrapped a planned Combs family reality series.
