Jessie Murph That Ain't No Man That's The Devil is out this Friday, and the singer shares Amy Winehouse inspo for her new music. She also talks about her collaboration with Jelly Roll on “Wild Ones,” her pre-show ritual for Sexyy Red, and more!
Jessie Murph:
I just hope they… they can feel, like, the emotion behind it, because there's a lot of emotion behind it. I would say it's like the first… from the first times I started to fully engage with my art.
Hello, this is Jessie Murph and you're watching Billboard News.
I would say it's my most authentic music to date. It's definitely, like, straight from the soul. Like, everything I'm saying is stuff that, like, I went through and I just felt like I had to get out, because there's a lot of anger, there's a lot of sadness, there's a lot of different emotions in there. But I don't know, this album was such a healing process for me personally, but sonically, it's a little bit different from all my other ones. A lot of it was more Amy Winehouse inspired. I think I've always resonated with her, like, lyrically, and I think her voice has so much soul in it. This work, not even, like, specifically, Amy Winehouse, I think, like soul in general, has been inspiring me a lot lately. But yeah, and hers is, like a soul, but it's, like, darker. And I really like that.
Probably that quote, “I hope it hurts.” The vocals are really great. It's super fun and just a really, like, painful song. And I love it.
So much fun. The best dude I've ever met, seriously, such a good guy.
