Joe Budden is skeptical that Tory Lanez was the gunman who shot Megan Thee Stallion during the 2020 altercation that led to the Canadian singer being sentenced to a decade behind bars.
During Thursday's (August 1) episode. The Joe Budden PodcastBudden and his co-hosts debated the legality of an affidavit provided by the driver from the night of the July 2020 shooting in California after a party at Kylie Jenner's house.
However, the rapper-turned-podcaster expressed his belief that Meg was just a “pawn” in the situation and that higher forces could be at play when it came time to bring down Lanez.
“What is more likely? Tori leaves the studio, goes to Kylie Jenner's house, freaks out, thinking she's going to pull the trigger,” Budden asked. “Meg is jealous – we know how they got into the car. What is more likely? Was this Tori so angry in that car that he took Kelsey's gun and shot her?'
Baden did not understand why Tori Lanez got so angry that he would shoot Megan. “Do you think a man shoots a girl for no reason? Give me a reason,” he said. 'Cause the only reason we got was,[Megan] he said I have more No. 1s than him.”
“Or what is more believable? Two people who were running as best friends, new to the music industry, one gets COVID, comes back, finds out her best friend is the one to pull through,” she theorized. “And this n—a was about to get some Kylie Jenner a–… This guy shoots? No, this guy wants to come back!”
Joe Budden speculated that Meg was a “pawn” in the ordeal and did not want to publicly give up the name of the person behind who “set it up”.
“I think it's over her,” he continued. “I don't think he made it up. He is a mere pawn in it. This project is bigger than her. He didn't make anything. I won't say who I think made it… But it wasn't her. N—like out there you know who it is. I know exactly who he is, I know how that gun got there, I know who he was.”
The third person involved in the drunken altercation was Meg's ex-boyfriend Kelsey Harrisabout which the “Pump It Up” rapper reportedly went into his DMs asking him not to discuss her and Meg-Tory's shooting anymore on his podcast.
“The last time we talked about this sh–, I thought it was weird that Kelsey jumped into my DMs like, 'Hey, don't talk about it anymore.' Why, because you have immunity? This is strange,” he added.
Tory Lanez remains behind bars after being sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023. Months earlier, Lanez was convicted of three felony counts related to shooting Megan in the legs.
“If I could go back over the course of events that night and change them, I would,” he reportedly told the judge. “The victim was my friend. The victim is someone I still care for to this day.”
Following his December 2022 sentencing, Baden changed his tune and apologized to Meghan for joking about her mental health. “I apologize to Meg,” he said his podcast. “Meg, the people who love her, her handlers, her team, the people who have to support her through a grueling ordeal. I heard back. I got a few phone calls from women I love, appreciate and admire.”
While in prison, Lanez got his hands on some recording equipment and released his single “Wish I Never Met You (Prison Tapes)” last Friday.
