With J. Cole out, Kendrick Lamar and Drake are left in the ring, and the pair of hip-hop titans may soon collide. Joe Budden claimed on Wednesday's (April 10) episode of his eponymous podcast that Drizzy and K. Dot came out of the studio with “nuclear” records ready to fire at each other.
“Whatever little rap you thought was going on, it's not and something's coming,” he began. “I think J. Cole knows it from either Drake, Kendrick or both. And it's time to bow out because we're not in the first round anymore.”
Budden said sources told him it's war time, with Drake and Lamar reportedly ready to face off.
“I have good information that both sides entered the booth and exited. And what I'm hearing on both sides is that it's nuclear. It's up, up. I hear it from people who can rap,” he said. “So I want to come here and say that the time for speculation is over. Discussion time is over.
“I've been saying for a few pods now that I've seen absolutely nothing from Drake to excite me enough to think he's going to be able to do what needs to be done against a Kendrick Lamar,” he added. “I'm here to say that I don't need to instigate anything anymore. We're here and apparently he did and people heard it. I heard it's bad.”
Advertising sign reps for Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been reached for comment.
Lamar reignited the fuse in March with his scathing response targeting Drake and J. Cole to Metro Boomin and Future's “Like That,” which is currently in its second week atop the Billboard Hot 100.
J. Cole had thrown back at K. Dot's record label with “7 Minute Drill,” but apologized and raised the white flag 48 hours later during his headlining set at Dreamville Fest on Sunday (April 7).
