John Summit has been selling out stadiums like Madison Square Garden, and we got the chance to speak with him about his latest album 'Comfort In Chaos', his relationship with Kaskade, closing out EDC 2024 with his childhood idol Green Velvet, being accepted into the Chicago house music scene, and more.
Juan's Summit:
The only way to get people to stop saying your name is to do nothing, to say nothing.
Katie Baine:
Exactly.
Juan's Summit:
And I don't want to choose that path. Hi, I'm John Sumit and you're reading Billboard News.
Katie Baine:
We have a lot to talk about, yes, because you are a busy man. Tell me about the closure of EDC and playing with Green Velvet and what that time was like for you.
Juan's Summit:
That was absolutely surreal, like Green Velvet had been my childhood hero, you know, ever since I started listening to house music, when they dropped “Percolator” the year I was born, 1994, which is crazy. And then yeah, closing out EDC, which is like, if you like every DJ stream, I think there were like 150,000 people in the crowd, so… Which is weird, like I thought I’d be nervous going up. There’s so many of them that it’s like your mind can’t even process them and we just played it like a Chicago house set and people liked it. So we’re happy.
Katie Baine:
Did I catch you crying for a minute? Eventually.
Juan's Summit:
It got a little emotional.
Katie Baine:
Well, tell me what was going through your mind or what your emotions were at that moment. Because that's a very important thing.
Juan's Summit:
I mean, I closed the festival with “Go Back,” which is my new single with Sub Focus and Julia Church, you know? The writing behind that is, you know, when I hear that sound…
