Kali Uchis:
It is a spiritual language. It's not about English or Spanish. It's not about gender. In reality, it is simply about expressing yourself as freely as possible. Hello, my name is Kali Uchis and this is Billboard News.
Lyndsey Shelters:
Hi, I'm Lyndsey Havens, I'm here for Billboard News. And we're here with Grammy Award-winning artist Kali Uchis.
So we have two drops to talk about here and congratulations!
Kali Uchis:
Thank you.
Lyndsey Shelters:
Very excited for you. How have you kept this a secret? What has been the most difficult part of that?
Kali Uchis:
I had to do some shows and I was in a Times list, I had to do a red carpet. That was really difficult.
Lyndsey Shelters:
And then, when the time comes, what are you most excited about being a mom?
Kali Uchis:
I don't know. Honestly, there's a lot to be excited about. So yeah, it's hard to say just one thing.
Lyndsey Shelters:
You won't know until it happens.
Kali Uchis:
Yes, exactly.
Lyndsey Shelters:
Your fourth album, orchids, It is now available. Congratulations. It's about the orchid theme that inspired this. How did you get to that? And why was that flower the right incarnation?
Kali Uchis:
Yes, I feel like the flower, it always symbolizes timelessness, femininity, luxury, and also has a strange mystical quality. And it is also the national flower of Colombia. So for me, it was all related, and then I didn't find out I was pregnant until later in my release, but it's actually also the flower of fertility. So actually everything turned out perfect.
