Kanye West's brief but lucrative five-show listening party for his Vultures 1 The album with Ty Dolla $ign brought in more than $12 million in ticket sales, Advertising sign estimates based on available data.
West's first two listening events in the United States — Feb. 8 at the United Center in Chicago and Feb. 9 at the UBS Arena in New York — each brought in about $2.4 million in ticket sales. While sales figures for the three listening events in Europe — February 22 at the Milan Arena. February 24 at the Unipol Arena in Bologna, Italy. and Feb. 25 at the Accor Arena in Paris — were not available, tickets were priced similarly to the U.S. shows, selling for between $140 and $220. All shows are believed to be sold out.
Sources say Advertising sign that the US shows were done by Chicago-based Jam Concerts, and that West originally requested a unique setup: Instead of performing on a stage, he and Ty Dolla $ign wanted to perform at the listening party on top of a giant pile of sand.
According to a source who watched the technical rider for the show, West wanted crews to dump a five-foot-tall, 35×35-foot pile of sand in the center of the arena to serve as a stage. When it was pointed out that the sand would not be able to securely hold the stage's speaker screens in place, the plan was scrapped. At the United States shows, Jam crew members built a more traditional main stage with ramps on four sides that West, Ty Dolla $ign and other guests could use to enter and exit.
A source close to both US shows said the schedule for the concerts was rushed: Both the Chicago and New York events took place just 72 hours after the announcement.
Advertising sign contacted Jam Productions and West's booking agent, Cara Lewisfor comment but did not receive a response by press time.
