Kelly Rowland is on Team Jay-Z. The Destiny's Child member and solo star spoke out album-of-the-year-snubs-exclusive” data-type=”link” data-id=”https://www.etonline.com/kelly-rowland-reacts-to-jay-z-calling-out-grammys-for-beyonce-album-of-the-year-snubs-exclusive” target=”_blank”>ET at the LA red carpet premiere of the Bob Marley biopic One Lovewhere he was asked about Jay's surprise comments criticizing the Recording Academy for never giving wife Beyoncé an album of the Year Grammy.
“Sean Carter [Jay-Z’s real name] he is one of the greatest men I know and his words resonate so strongly with me,” Rowland said. “I couldn't be more proud of him.” In accepting the award Dr. Dre Global Impact at Sunday's Grammys, Jay surprise turned into a love/hate sideline for Bey, who was sitting in the audience at the Crypto.com Arena.
“I'm just saying, we want you to do it right. We love you all. we love you all. We want you to get it right, or at least get it close to right, and obviously it's subjective … because it's music and it's opinion-based, but some things — I don't want to embarrass that young lady,” he said, referring to Beyoncè. “But she's got more Grammys than anyone and she's never won album of the year, so even by your own standards it doesn't work. Think about it. Most Grammys and never won album of the year. This is not working.”
Rowland added: “I'm very happy about a lot of things he said. I think he made a lot of artists feel very visible and very heard in those minutes when he was on stage.”
For the record, Beyoncé has a record 32 Grammy wins on her resume, but has never won the coveted album of the year award. “I feel like she's an idol … and that's for a reason — it's because she starts trends,” Rowland said ET. “She's innovative, her ideas are big and bright and she just jumps for them and does it. I think her albums reflect that and she really should be celebrated in that way.”
Rowland added that she wasn't just saying that because Bey is her “sister,” but because “it's the truth. I have seen the blood, sweat and tears she puts into these works, her thoughts and her heart, her passion and her soul.”
