Khalid he's opening up about his sexuality — even if it's not something he originally intended to talk about.
In a series of posts on his X on Friday (November 22), Khalid officially came out as gay, simply suspension a rainbow flag emoji and asks his fans to move on to “next topic please lol.” When another user followed up for clarification, Khalid confirmed that he identified as gay, writing “and that's okay.”
In another tweet, Khalid made his reasoning behind the posts clear. “I went out [sic] and the world still turns,” he wrote. “Let's get this straight (lmao) I'm not ashamed of my sexuality! It's really nobody's business! But I'm fine with me.”
Bulletin board reps for Khalid have been contacted for comment.
As reported by Rolling Stone, the outing Khalid referred to came from a series of since-deleted tweets by X user and recording artist Hugo Almonte. After writing that a “gay R&B singer” once “tried to set me up and lie about breaking into his house,” Almonte shared a photo of himself and Khalid that has since been deleted.
In a statement given to the show, Almonte claimed he wanted to “share how he tried to use his power to silence me because I simply ended our relationship” and said he received death threats from many who accused him of “chasing influence.” with his claims. “I kept at it for five years and finally had enough.”
When a fan pointed out that Khalid's song and music video for 2022's “Satellite” was already an “LGBTQ anthem,” Khalid responded, letting them know they were absolutely right. “Thank you!!!! I never hid,” he said.
