Laila!, the talented viral sensation from Brooklyn (and daughter of Yasiin Bey), has just dropped the official video for her single 'Not My Problem'. And not only is this coming from the Cash Cobain remix posse featuring 14 (count 'em) rappers, but she's also announcing the release date of her debut album Gap Year! which will hit shelves on September 6th.
The video, directed by Otmara Marrero, features Laila! and her friends catching her boyfriend cheating like a dirty low level dog. Once home, she lies in disbelief and then notices a commercial for the 'Not My Problem' hotline (not to be confused with the 'Get Indicted Hotline' from '1-900-Hustler“). What ensues is a mix of call center vibes, Hilary Banks power suits, and late-90s cable commercials that make for a fun watch for a song with an infectious chorus that we can't get it out of our heads.She writes, sings, raps and produces everything herself and has expressed that she hopes to make beats for some of her favorite artists eventually.
It's already been a busy year. Her song “Like this!” went viral on TikTok and reached No. 3 on the Billboard TikTok Top 50, staying on that chart for eight weeks. “Not My Problem” peaked at No. 16 on that chart and also climbed the Hot R&B Songs chart, peaking at No. 25.
The Brooklyn songstress released a four-song self-titled EP In Ctrl! back in February. It's safe to say that Laila's! like a person smoking in a gas stationso be sure to pay attention, because her star will become brighter.
