Wilson's third single from her upcoming 'Whirlwind' is a breezy ode to enduring love
Tornado, the upcoming album from Lainey Wilson is surely the most anticipated country blockbuster of the year. Now, with the album less than two months away, the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year is promoting the release with a series of teases. A day after releasing the video to “Hang Tight Honey,” her current Top Twenty single at country radio, Wilson released the song “4x4xu” as an Independence Day bonus, with an accompanying video to boot.
The soulful mid-tempo ballad tells the story of a fast-blooming highway romance set in the cab of a truck: “Your hands ten and two on this heart of mine,” she sings.
“This song is about finding someone who gives you the comfort and peace of home anywhere in the world as long as you're around them,” said Wilson, who goes on to say that she believes the co-writing between Wilson, Jon Decious and Aaron Raitiere 'could be my biggest song'.
“4x4xu” marks the third preview from Tornado, which will be released on August 23rd. Expectations are high for Wilson's third record after her previous attempt in 2022 Bell Bottom Country, recently won Country album of the Year at the Grammys earlier this year. Her upcoming album comes at a time during a year of increased exposure and attention for country, with everyone from Post Malone to Beyoncé to Lana Del Rey getting into the genre.
“When I moved to Nashville in 2011, with my trailer, I was very country to country,” Wilson said. Rolling rock last year. “So it's crazy to wrap my head around the fact that people who don't even listen to country listen to me.” That's exactly the theme of the first preview he offered earlier this year: “Country's Cool Again.”
