Bronny James' parents are speaking out about his cardiac arrest for the first time.
LeBron and Savannah James couldn't help but be emotional that they almost lost one of their most prized possessions, their son, Brony James.
The touching moment was captured for Netflix's new sports documentaries, Start 5which follows LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Domantas Sabonis, Jayson Tatum and Anthony Edwards through the 2023-24 season.
“I think at the end of the day, it was just about supporting each other and just being super grateful for the outcome,” an emotional Savannah James said in the episode.
The episode also features LeBron and his mother, Gloria James, meeting with Erin, a member of the USC medical staff who responded immediately when Brony collapsed on the court, saving the young hooper's life.
“Shout out to the man upstairs,” James, 36, said during the confessional segment as footage of Gloria and him meeting Erin played. “And to the entire coaching staff, training staff, members of this program,” LeBron continued, calling Erin “literally right.”
“Erin was doing CPR on Brony when he went down,” LeBron told his mother during the meeting.
LeBron said the university's medical staff is “the reason Brony is alive now and smiling and thriving and doing what any 19-year-old should be doing, and that's fulfilling his dream.”
What happened to Bronny James
Bronny, who is now set to make his regular season debut alongside his dad as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, was diagnosed with “an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect.”
He underwent successful surgery in August before beginning rehabilitation. He returned to the field to make his college debut, with his dad and grandma watching and cheering him on.
During the episode, LBJ admitted he was nervous watching Bronny hit and run up and down the field, but the best moment for him was watching Bronny walk off the field after the game ended and don't carry him on a gurney.
Start 5 it is now streaming on Netflix.
