Lil Durk is known for his prowess on the basketball court, and now he's ready to offer college students a chance to earn scholarship cash thanks to their own dribbling skills.
On Thursday (March 28), Durk announced its new partnership with Starry for the Starry Fizz Fest, a basketball competition hosted at four different HBCUs across the country where students will compete for a chance to win more than 333,000 $ in scholarships and awards.
“Being competitive isn't just about sports, but life itself is about hunger, drive and teamwork,” Durk said in a statement. “This initiative is all about rewarding students for their hard work on and off the field, showing love and supporting our people as they pursue their dreams.”
Fizz Fest will take place at Norfolk State University on March 29th and then make trips to Hampton University (April 1st) and Jackson State University (April 20th) before concluding with a visit to Morgan State University on April 26th.
Students have the opportunity to compete in STARRY games (Horse-themed spin-off) three-point contests and arcade-style basketball contests for a chance to win one of the top prizes, including a NIL deal (name, image and likeness deal) usually reserved for student-athletes to become “one of the new faces of STARRY,” according to a press release
The PepsiCo Foundation will award one student at each stop with $20,000 as well. Applications for this scholarship opening on April 8th.
The winner stands to earn an all-expenses-paid trip to the NBA Tip-Off for the 2024-2025 season and lend their name, image and likeness as the face of the next Starry Fizz Fest 2.0 tournament.
Lil Durk will surprise students with an appearance at one of the HBCU stops, but it has not been announced where the rapper will be performing yet.
