Linkin Park have revealed the details of their career-spanning debut greatest hits album: Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023)a survey of the band's 20 best-selling songs of two decades, will be released April 12 via Warner Records, the group announced on Friday (February 23).
In addition, Linkin Park released “Friendly Fire,” a never-before-heard song recorded during the band's last studio album in 2017. One more light. Like “Lost,” the unreleased track revealed last year as part of the set Meteora The 20th anniversary compilation “Friendly Fire” features a powerful vocal performance by Chester Bennington, who died in 2017.
Guitarist Brad Delson says of “Friendly Fire,” “When we started looking for an unreleased track to include on our greatest hits collection, I was blown away by the power of the song, the power of the storytelling, the power of the vocals, the sonic landscape and I really thought it was closer than we might have realized at the time.”
Paper cuts features a wide range of Linkin Park hits, from “In the End” to “Burn It Down” to Jay-Z's “Numb/Encore” mash-up, as well as “Lost,” which became the latter's top 40 Hot of the band. 100 hit on the 2023 release and it helped Meteora return to the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart. For die-hard fans, Paper cuts will also include an official version of “QWERTY,” a sought-after rarity for more than a decade.
“When making every Linkin Park album, I want to love and believe in every single song completely,” says Mike Shinoda. “I hope that if a track is heard on its own in the world, it's something I can be proud of and something that takes root in the listener and becomes part of the energy that connects us.
“Editing the pieces for Paper cuts it was fine,” Shinoda continues. “Each song on this collection is both a unique moment in our timeline and an evolving story that is as much ours as yours.
