When Linkin Park hits the road again this month, they'll not only have a new singer and drummer, but a new lead guitarist as well. In a statement released Friday afternoon, Brad Delson announced that he will not be participating in the band's upcoming comeback tour, instead choosing to contribute from behind the scenes.
“Over the years I’ve found that I thrive most when I’m actively working with my bandmates behind the scenes – in the studio, collaborating on our new music and helping to build our live show,” Delson explained.
Alex Feder will take on the role of Linkin Park's new touring guitarist. He made his debut alongside newcomers Emily Armstrong, the band's new co-vocalist, and drummer Colin Brittain during Linkin Park's live performance on Thursday.
“I’m so proud of all we continue to create together,” Delson continued his statement. “While I won’t be touring in this new chapter, I’m so excited to introduce Alex, my handsome sidekick on the road. Alex is a world-class musician, a kind and thoughtful friend, and we’re truly fortunate to have him contribute his unique talents to our LP universe.”
Linkin Park's new live lineup, which includes Armstrong, Brittain and Feder along with original members Mike Shinoda, Joe Hahn and Dave Farrell, will play six stadiums around the world in preparation for their new album, From scratchscheduled for release on November 15. The band plans to embark on a more extensive tour in 2025.
Linkin Park's comeback hasn't been all smooth sailing. Following news of Armstrong's involvement, The Mars Volta's Cedric Bixler-Zavala and his wife, Chrissie Carnell-Bixler, called out his alleged support for convicted rapist Danny Masterson and his ties to Scientology. In a statement released Friday night, Armstrong said, “I do not condone abuse or violence against women, and I stand in solidarity with the victims of these crimes.”
