Linkin Park has released a preview of the unreleased song “Friendly Fire,” which features the vocals of the late Chester Bennington.
The band shared a snippet of the song on their official site. X/Twitter accountdescribing it as a “new and unreleased song from the one more light 2017 sessions”. Tragically, Bennington would take his own life just two months after the album's release in May of that year.
The short teaser reveals quite a bit about the song, which has the same synthpop qualities as many other tracks from one more light.
Bennington's voice is prominent throughout, and the following lyrical passage is captured in the 30-second snippet: “We are falling apart for no reason / We are pulling the trigger on a useless war / If we go back and stay in the black / Why are we fighting? / What are we fighting against? / It’s just friendly fire.”
No release date was given for the full song, although the post included the caption “20 'Friendly Fire'” and the hashtag “FriendlyFireLP.”
Now we're curious to know how much material with Bennington on vocals remains in the Linkin Park vaults. It is an expanded edition of one more light Or an LP of unreleased songs on the horizon? The band followed a similar trajectory last year, sharing an unreleased song. Meteora-Track from the era before the reissue of that album.
