During an interview with Charlamagne Tha God, LL Cool J was asked about his rumored fights with Jay-Z.
One such rumor that has been circulating for years was that they ran into each other in a random parking lot in Manhattan and started fighting. Supposedly LL was laughed at for using a lyric from his 1993 song “Funkadelic Relic» from his album 14 Shots at the Dome.
When asked about this very rumor, the Queens legend said:
“Okay, let's talk about what it really is. First of all, I didn't rap a verse from “Funkadelic Relic.” Okay; That's the first thing. It's stupid-t. It's not true. But what happened is I see the guy, he's in the club and he's trying to make money to get my attention and I'm like, okay. And then the Salsa man [Money] he came up to me and was rapping. Well, I had a couple of rhymes…remember, I'm on the albums now.
“You know, these are guys who didn't have a deal like that. So when I didn't have a deal, I had a suitcase of rhymes. Now I'm in an album. Sos said some rhymes. I said two rhymes. Then I sang a little song, “It doesn't stop there.' A little bit. Then Jay started rapping. i was out of rhymes, b. In no scenario was I fully loaded and ready to rhyme. If I was, I'm not exactly the first rapper you want to get into this mess with.
“So yeah, am I out of rhymes? Am I done rapping? Abso-f-ing-lutely. Was it their peanut gallery? Absolutely. But do you really want to get into any of this LL shit? Do you really want it? Do you guys want these problems or is it just a cool story?'
The two legends have been cordial at times in public, but have also fallen out with each other on various records over the years. Jay made it to LL this Tim Westwood freebie back in the late 90's and LL took a chance on Jay's Def Jam headlining track”Queens.”
On the other hand, Jay called out the rap legend during his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech saying that LL helped rappers like him feel more comfortable being vulnerable and “gave us emotional intelligence.”
LL is on a promo run for his 14th solo album titled Power which is slated for a September 6th release date.
