Louis Millne isn't afraid to play with the past, but he brings it screaming into the future with his new single, “WYGD.”
Out now via House Hats, the deep-tech track samples Fat Joe and Nelly's 2005 hip-hop hit, “Get It Poppin',” and spins it on your head like a Yankee cap fitted backwards. Stripped down samples (enough to power up memory banks) are interpolated and layered over a thick bass line.
Millne has masterfully created a hypnotic, minimalist beat that will keep you locked in and sweating profusely. It's a testament to the timeless appeal of turn-of-the-century hip-hop and a reminder that sometimes less is more when it comes to creating dynamite on the dance floor.
Prior to its release, “WYGD” received initial support from Sosa, Marco Carola and Joshwa and many more. Millne also has a monster summer on the horizon as he prepares for performances at Creamfields and the Abode Records residency at Eden Ibiza, among others. Listen to the new track below.
