Madison Beer tackles misogyny in her song 'King of Everything' – specifically 'men in positions of power who I feel have abused their power'.
The 24-year-old pop star released her second studio LP 'Silence Between Songs' in September and has now opened up about the inspiration for many of the lyrics.
Speaking to NME, he said: “There are a few themes, honestly, within this song.
“There's the direct relationship I've had with some people – a lot of people – who are those men in positions of power who I think have abused their power or not been great about it… I don't know how to put it. .
“You know, [there are] things that I've seen and been through where now that I'm older I'm like, “That's crazy”
Beer also noted that the song reflected the lonely existence for many who achieved enormous fame or enormous wealth.
He added: “Growing up around so many successful entrepreneurs and big celebrities and billionaire managers and seeing how really lonely a lot of those people were. How could you have all the success and money and everything else in the world, but if you're a miserable person, you're going to be miserable no matter what.
“It was quite impressive to me and something I always recognized.
“So yeah, in the least harsh way possible, we wrote 'King Of Everything' [about all of that].”
Beer has previously spoken out against the misogynistic culture in the music industry and praised fellow artist Billie Eilish for bringing attention to the struggles of her music.
He said: “I think the issues [Billie] the touches in her music are so prolific.
“He talks about things that a lot of other artists don't and maybe they're afraid of, which is true because we've all been conditioned to be afraid to talk about certain things.”
