Celebrities flocked to Milan Fashion Week on the final big day of catwalk shows on Saturday (September 21), sending crowds of adoring fans from venue to venue. Designers previewed mostly womenswear for next spring and summer.
Madonna sat in a front row seat at Dolce & Gabbana, alongside Naomi Campbell and Maneskin's Victoria De Angelis. Her partner, Maneskin frontman Damiano David, appeared at Diesel, one of the hottest tickets of the season, across town.
Madonna, attempting a semi-stealth entrance at Dolce & Gabbana, dressed in a black veil for a runway show that referenced '90s style and celebrated the cone bra, which debuted on tour in 1990.
Models in blonde wigs puzzled Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana corsets and fitted jackets, each with an aggressively feminine cone bra, in a collection she notes “pays homage to an iconic and powerful female figure.”
Madonna wasn't specifically mentioned, but the Milanese designer and pop star's stars have aligned since they created costumes for her 1993 The Girlie Show tour. The tour promoted Madonna's Erotic album, which was released alongside her taboo-breaking coffee table book Sex.
The collection, called “Italian Beauty”, perfectly captured that moment in time. Bras of cones peeked from cropped jackets with pencil skirts, garters swung from corsets and coats sculpted the body. Floral prints are back in a color scheme of black, nude, red and white. Oversized cross earrings accented the look. The heels were unforgivably high.
After taking their bows, the designers walked the runway to greet their guest of honor. The Madonna, still covered in her long Chantilly lace veil, secured by a gold and crystal crown, stood to embrace them both.
