The manager of Crazy Town has described frontman Shifty Shellshock’s cause of death.
The Crazy Town frontman died at home this week, aged 49 – now his manager has given a statement explaining what caused his passing.
“Seth Binzer, after struggling with addiction and Crazy Town’s rapid success with ‘Butterfly,’ never was able to reach out on a more successful level to deal with his addictions,” the band’s manager Howie Hubberman told People magazine. “We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, or Shifty would still be here.
“The cause of death was a combination of prescription drugs and street purchased drugs. Shifty was a friend and really wanted to get himself fixed – unfortunately no one had the exact tools to do this, myself included.”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is still awaiting the return of toxicology reports to list the official cause of death.
Shifty, whose real name was Seth Binzer, was frank about his struggles with addiction, appearing on reality TV series Celebrity Rehab and its spin-off show, Sober House.
In 2012, the singer and rapper was arrested on charges of battery and drug possession after a clothing-store employee saw him roughly grab his ex-girlfriend’s arm during an argument. A decade later, he was arrested on DUI charges.
