Morris made the announcement in a Pride Month Instagram post
Maren Morris told followers on Instagram that she is bisexual. In a post this weekend after a tour stop in Phoenix, Morris wrote, “Happy to be B in LGBTQ+.” LGBTQ+ is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer, with the plus sign symbolizing other sexual identities. Morris also wrote “Happy pride” in her post, with a rainbow emoji.
The country and pop singer is currently on the road as part of her RSVP Redux tour and performed at the Arizona Financial Theater in Phoenix on Saturday. She plays her next show at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado, on Tuesday.
Morris filed for divorce from her husband, country singer-songwriter Ryan Heard, last October, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The former couple, who have a four-year-old son together, legally separated on the same day as the filing and had a prenup. The divorce was finalized in January, ending their five-year marriage. The singers were married in Nashville in 2018 and released the duet 'Chasing After You' in 2021.
Morris' Instagram post included images of her on stage holding a rainbow pride flag. June has been designated as pride month.
Morris released the EP The bridge last September, with the songs 'The Tree' and 'Get the Hell Out of Here'. The tracks were seen as the Grammy-winning singer's farewell to the mainstream country music industry.
“These two songs are incredibly key to my next step because they express a very angry and redemptive phase of my life over the last couple of years, but also how my navigation ultimately points towards the future, whatever that is or sounds like. ». Morris said in a statement at the time. “I respect where I've been and what I've accomplished in country music, but also to move forward freely.”
