It's been five years since Marvel announced it Blade will join their ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, the rebooted franchise has suffered setbacks to the point where fans doubt the “Day Walker”-centric film would ever see the light of day.
Luckily for us, it looks like Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hasn't given up on the project and recently stated that Blade is still a priority and its star, Mahershala Ali, is still the last superhero in the MCU. According to DeadlineFeige spoke to a Brazilian entertainment website Omelet for Blade and a few other Marvel projects and revealed that he's not alone Blade there's still a lot going on, but that Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch is still very much alive in the MCU and could be back soon.
Although there had been rumors that Marvel was close to giving up Blade (like Mahershala Ali) after a few directors dropped out or passed on the project and the script was rewritten a few times, vampire slaying fans rejoice as Feig says they're committed to bringing Blade in the MCU and reviving the franchise that technically started the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Per Deadline:
“We love the character, we love Mahershala's version. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project or even try to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know. You are informed of what is happening. But I can tell you that the character is coming to the MCU,” Feige said.
We certainly hope so. While his future Blade was in the air, there were whispers that Wesley Snipes would reprise the role in the upcoming Marvel's Avengers: Secret Wars as his return inside Deadpool & Wolverine it showed that the man still had a lot in the tank with the character.
As for Elizabeth Olson's witch Scarlett, who supposedly met her fate at the end of it Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswill also return in the near future, following the success of the Disney+ series, Agatha All Along.
“Ever since (Agatha), there have been a lot of questions about Wanda on fans' minds… So all I can say is that we're excited to find out when and how the Scarlet Witch might return,” Feige said.
Since Scarlett Witch might get her own movie or series, rumors are already swirling that X-Men's Jean Gray could make her MCU debut in a possible Scarlett Witch project.
Another nice little tidbit in Feige's interview with Omelet was the potential debut of Miles Morales Spider-Man who may be called into MCU action after Sony's Spider-Verse series concludes.
“I hope that, shortly after (Beyond the Spider-Verse), may enter the live-action MCU.”
