Mike Campbell, celebrated songwriter and guitarist of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, has announced Heartbreaker, a new memoir. The book is due for release on March 18th via Grand Central Publishing (pre order here).
Heartbreaker explores both the personal and creative life of Campbell, offering fans an in-depth look at his upbringing, his experience linking up with Petty, and the origins of songs like “Refugee” and “Rinnin’ Down a Dream.” He also touches on collaborating with such artists as Don Henley and Stevie Nicks.

“This is my book,” Campbell said in a press release. “It’s the story of a poor kid from Jacksonville, Florida, who realized a dream through music. It’s a long journey through hard work, dedication, and luck. Playing guitar and writing songs has been my inspiration and purpose. It’s a story of hope, redemption, and gratitude, a testimonial that dreams can come true if you believe in yourself and follow your truth. It took two years to write and it’s a labor of love. I hope you enjoy the ride!”
In other Heartbreakers’ news, Campbell and fellow Heartbreaker Benmont Tench are both currently touring together for the “Life Is a Carnival: Last Waltz Tour ’24.” The run stops in Rockford, Illinois tonight (October 30th) and will go on to hit New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto, and other cities in the coming weeks.
