ACM Awards Triple Crown Winner Miranda Lambert she's ready to once again turn her powerful pen, and her harsh yet comparative vocal power, to a new set of bright-eyed songs when her new album is released, Postcard from Texason September 13. The 14-track album marks the Texas native's first since announcing her signing to Republic Records earlier this year.
The three-time Grammy winner took to Austin's Arlyn Recording Studios to record the new project, which she produced with Jon Randall. Lambert previewed the album with the fiery tracks “Wranglers” and “Dammit, Randy,” but her latest first look at the album comes with the irresistible shuffle of “Alimony,” which she wrote with longtime collaborators Shane McAnally and Natalie. Hamby.
“We were out in my barn. I was showing Shane and Natalie the horses and asked if she had any other titles,” Lambert said in a statement. “He said he had one, and I said, 'What is it?' Because your last one was “Looking Back on Luckenbach”, which I didn't think you could top. He said, “Well, 'If you leave me in San Antone, remember the Alamo-neeeeee.'” Natalie and I were like, 'Okay, Shane!' Stop showing off.”
Lambert continues, “We went back to the house and got the guitars and I said specifically, 'I want a shuffle, man.' I love mixing so much, and this record needed mixing! I knew I wanted one in my set, because I haven't in a while – and all loves a shuffle.”
For “Alimony”, Lambert and Randall also assembled a group of top musicians, including Jedd Hughes and Ethan Ballinger (electric guitar), Texas, Bukka Allen (barrelhouse piano), Rachel Loy (bass) and Conrad Choucroun (drums ).
From there, the album promises a mix of tender ballads, guitar-laden tracks and acoustic performances, as well as amped-up melodies with rock tinges. The album also features a collaboration with fellow Texan Parker McCollum on the song “Santa Fe,” as well as a solo song from Lambert (“Run”) and a take from David Allan Coe's “Living on the Run,” the which Coe included on his 1976 album Long-haired redhead.
Although Postcard from Texas Recorded in the state of the same name, this is not Lambert's first album recorded in the Lone Star State. In 2020, he teamed up with Randall and Jack Ingram to write and record the stripped-down, collaborative project The Marfa filmsrecorded around a campfire in Marfa, Texas (album out in 2021).
