“Unfortunately, the process is taking longer and we are unable to open and offer this experience this Memorial Day weekend,” the restaurant group says of the opening
Its opening Morgan Wallen's new Nashville bar and restaurant, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, was postponed at the last minute.
Days after a city council denied a neon sign at Morgan Wallen's This Bar — with local politicians citing the country star's chair-throwing incident and past use of racial slurs as reasons — and hours before the venue was set to open, the restaurant group behind by Honky The Tonk Highway bar has announced it won't be ready in time for the holiday weekend.
“We are proud of our team who worked tirelessly to prepare Morgan Wallen's This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen for opening. The initial construction of a six-story space that will begin with hundreds of team members is a huge amount of work and a complex process,” TC Restaurant Group said in a statement (via Advertising sign).
“When we open, we want this bar to be a great experience for guests. Unfortunately, the process takes more time and we are unable to open and offer this experience this Memorial Day weekend. Rest assured it will be worth the wait. We look forward to welcoming guests soon.”
It's unclear if the postponement is also related to the foundation's lack of signage — the 20-foot sign bearing Wallen's name was overwhelmingly rejected by the Nashville council in a 30-3 vote — or if there are other issues: According to Scoop NashvilleMorgan Wallen's This Bar failed two permits from the Nashville Beer Board, which must approve the sale of alcohol at the neighboring Ryman Auditorium complex, and this bar also lacks its Fire & Codes approval.
At the council meeting earlier this week, council member Delishia Porterfield said “I don't want to see a billboard with the name of a person who throws chairs off balconies and who says racial slurs and uses the n-word.” Council member Jordan Huffman added, “Mr. Wallen is a fellow East Tennessean. He gives us all a bad name. His comments are hateful. his actions are harmful.”
No specific opening date is planned for Morgan Wallen's This Bar, with the venue now promising to open in the vague 'Soon'.
