The board of directors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday (June 24) that CEO Bill Kramer he will continue in the role until July 2028. Kramer's contract, which is up for renewal in 2025, was approved a year early due to what the Academy calls his “outstanding leadership and significant contributions.”
“Bill is a dynamic and transformative leader, and the board agrees that he is the ideal person to continue to expand the reach and impact of the Academy in our international film community and to successfully guide the organization into our next 100 years,” said the president of the Academy. Janet Young he said in a statement.
Kramer, who first joined the Academy in 2012, became director of the Academy's Motion Picture Museum in January 2020 and was named CEO of the Academy in June 2022. He will continue to oversee all aspects of the Academy and its more than 700 its employees. Kramer will continue to lead the expansion and engagement of the Academy's global membership, all awards programs including the Academy Awards, the Foundation's education and emerging talent initiatives, the Academy's extensive collection and preservation initiatives, and the ongoing screening calendar and public programs.
Under Kramer's leadership, the organization recently launched Academy100, a global monetization and outreach campaign. Kramer also spearheaded major strategic changes at the Academy, aligning all arms of the organization, including the Academy Foundation and the Academy Museum.
Kramer continues to champion the Academy's initiatives to provide opportunities for underrepresented communities to participate in the film industry, including producing programming that highlights often-marginalized voices and stories, diversifying the Academy's membership, and implementing strong accessibility and sustainability programs.
