The late Motörhead guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke is the subject of an upcoming 320-page biography and 4-CD box set, both out September 6 via BMG.
Make My Day: The Rock and Roll Story of Fast Eddie Clarke Written by rock journalist Kris Needs along with Clarke's widow, Mariko Fujiwara, the book follows Clarke's life and career from his formative years in the burgeoning UK rock scene, through his legendary stint with Motörhead from 1976 to 1982 and his subsequent hard rock/AOR band Fastway and beyond.
“Mariko and Eddie’s closest friends provide detailed insight into Eddie’s life, including his growing up in Twickenham, his successes with Motörhead, his overcoming of personal problems, his search for happiness with Mariko and his becoming the loving co-owner of Cookie, the Maltese-Shih Tzu mix,” reads the book’s press release.
As for the author, Kris Needs worked as an editor for one of the UK's first music magazines, Zig Zagand was one of the first to champion Motörhead in the press, spending five years in close proximity to the band during their most successful period. Needs also interviewed other associated bands of the period, such as Girlschool and Saxon, for the upcoming biography.
A four-CD box set of the same name will be released to coincide with the book’s release. Each CD contains a different era of Clarke’s career to build a chronological retrospective: Disc 1 (“The Early Years” featuring his early bands Zeus, Continuous Performance and Muggers); Disc 2 (selected Motörhead classics from Clarke’s era in the band); Disc 3 (selected cuts, demos and Fastway remixes); and Disc 4 (“The Solo Years”).
