There's no shade like the fashion shade. Anna Wintour and Naomi Campbell threw a few jabs at each other during a recent awards show.
As spotted on TMZ the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine was feeling pedestrian this week. The media executive was invited to present the supermodel with the Icon Award at Harlem's Fashion Row Fashion Show And Awards. While on stage she looked visibly annoyed that Naomi hadn't arrived at the event yet and proceeded to take a jab at her. “I'm a very punctual person and I have the honor of presenting tonight to someone who is often late,” Wintour said, to which the crowd in attendance laughed. She informed Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Samira Nasr that she would have to present the honor to Naomi as Wintour was leaving the ceremony soon after. He would later appear at the US Open.
Once she arrived, it seems that Naomi was alerted that Wintour had left the venue, prompting her to deal with the situation in a very classy yet charming way. “I want to say this. Everything is meant to work the way it's going to,” he told the crowd. “It was not my choice to have the other lady. I'd rather have that,” Campbell said, nodding toward Nasr. While the shade was indeed back, Naomi had some gentle work for Wintour.
“So thank you, Anna Wintour, for supporting my career since 1987, when I met a young black girl from South London at the offices of British Vogue and we took the opportunity to give me a photo shoot,” he added. “And so thank you for your influence and continued support in promoting fashion as well.”
Sources close to the event say that Naomi Campbell was not late and arrived at the requested time. TMZ hears that Anna Wintour was the one who asked the committee to move the presentation up to do the tennis match. You can see highlights from the event below.
