The stars collaborated 22 years ago for the Latin pop hit “Fotografía”
Back in 2002, Nelly Furtado and Juanes teamed up for “Fotografía,” a wistful guitar ballad that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs and Latin Pop Airplay charts. At the time, both artists had shot to stardom with their debut album, Furtado with Wow Nelly! and Juanes with Fijate Bien. “Fotografía” brought together two forces from different parts of the industry and put their chemistry front and center, featuring Furtado singing in Spanish for the first time. It quickly featured on Juanes' landmark second album, Un Día Normal.
Now, 22 years later, the two stars have announced that they are reuniting for a new song called 'Gali Y Dali'. The track is sure to rekindle 200th century Latin pop nostalgia and remind people how seamless their sound is together. The song will be released on March 28 and will be produced by Andres Torres, Mauricio Rengifo and Juanes' longtime collaborator Sebastian Krys.
“For me, it's a great pleasure to be with Nelly,” Juanes said in a statement. It means a lot because we've shared a big part of our lives from 'Photo' until now.” He explained that in the song, Furtado guided him and helped him hear new sounds. “Nelly takes me to a place of joy and light,” he shared. “I could give myself a chance to get away from my sound, from what I play on the guitar, to a more Caribbean, so to speak, more danceable sound, which Nelly wanted to have in this song as well” .
Furtado called it a “very positive song, like sunshine” and talked about her connection with Juanes. “We're crazy about music, that's why we're friends.”
Juanes enjoyed a breakout year in 2023, winning a Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop/Rock album. Furtado also released more music, performing Timbaland's “Keep Going Up” featuring Justin Timberlake.
