Back in August, rapper Nelly was arrested in the St. Louis area and was facing charges that included possession of ecstasy. Well, it now appears that the “Country Grammar” artist is out of legal harm's way, according to a spokesperson for the St. Louis County District Attorney's office. TMZ Hip Hop“We do not believe the facts in this case warrant charges.”
As previously reported, Nelly, born Cornell Haynes II, was arrested at the Hollywood Casino in St. Charles by Missouri State Highway Patrol Gaming Division troopers who asked him for identification, which revealed a 2018 warrant for failure to appear in court. According to TMZ, the arrest came moments after the 49-year-old hit $50,000 on a slot machine. — which is just rotten luck for someone who just got lucky AF. After Nelly's arrest, officers allegedly found four ecstasy pills in his possession.
At the time, Nelly's attorney, Scott Rosenblum, he said His client was “targeted by an overzealous, out-of-line officer” and complained about the 'Hot In Herre' rapper being paraded in handcuffs. As his client evaded the charges he was facing, Rosenbloom explained that, upon closer investigation, prosecutors found it unnecessary to pursue charges.
“Wesley Bell, the DA and his office reviewed all the circumstances and after a fair and impartial review of the evidence, declined to prosecute,” Rosenblum told TMZ.
Honestly, the craziest thing about this story is that people are still busting for ecstasy in 2024. It's like an early 2000s drug crisis coming back two decades later.
Anyway, luckily for Nelly, she managed to get out of the arrest without being charged. (One can only wonder if he was still able to cash out that $50,000.)
Stay safe out there guys.
