Nipsey Hussle's older Blacc Sam sat down with legendary radio personality Big Boy on Off Air series of interviews.
In the recently released episode, they talked about a bunch of topics ranging from Sam and Nipsey's childhood to the rapper's untimely death that rocked the rap world. Towards the end of the interview, around the 1:07 mark, Blacc Sam talked about the day his younger brother was murdered in 2019. He recalled being hopeful that Nipsey would make it as they drove to the hospital, but admitted that he had his faith he was agitated when he finally passed. “I just couldn't understand it. It was like the Twilight Zone after that,” he told Big Boy. “In everything I believed in – my faith was destroyed.” Big then asked Blacc Sam if the killing was really as random as the audience believed, prompting Sam to discuss the security protocol that was usually in place whenever Nipsey visited his Marathon Clothing store.
“Anyone come into the store, they know we're at the door,” he said. “When Hussle gets up, we're at the door. You'll see me in a hood and I put a gun on me. You'll see one of the hooded squad members at the door with a pistol. This is the protocol when Hussle lifts.
“Well, it's Sunday. He's busy in there. Why didn't the na in there follow protocol? I wasn't there. Why didn't they follow it? Maybe he was f-king around helping a customer who was doing some f-king customer service. That's what I'm thinking, trying to transition to something legit, just selling clothes. But no one was at the door. From what I understand, the boy went up shirtless to check out the scene “because he knows what's going on in that parking lot,” he said. “We had a chat, I guess I saw nobody was at the door, I checked Hussle was wearing shorts, I checked everyone else, he left. They say he came back in a red shirt. Crossing the alley, he went right and started shooting.”
And he continued: “Well, to me this is premeditated. Number one, there are no red shirts in the hood. I can't buy any red shirts, no liquor stores sell red shirts. Number two, when you come out of the alley in the redshirt, that's the throw.”
This year marks the fifth anniversary of Nipsey's death. His girlfriend at the time, Lauren London, paid tribute to the late rapper on Instagram, writing: “If you know me, you know March is always hard for me 31 days holding my breath,” she said. “This day decided to fall on Easter Sunday this 2024 Interest…. considering your name #GodWillRise Energy never dies…. i love you Eternal.”
Nipsey has been in the news recently for having a posthumous verse on Rakim's first album in 15 years. The legendary MC talked about getting a Nipsey verse in an interview with Billboard last month.
