Sure, Noah Kahan has been nominated for Grammys and Billboard Music Awards, played sold-out shows coast-to-coast, and scored his first Adult Pop Airplay chart No. 1 in May with his breakthrough hit “Stick Season.”
But the Vermont native won the biggest award of all this week when Ben & Jerry's released a custom flavor in his honor. Even the highly melodic singer Kahan couldn't contain his creepiness about the Green Mountain State Equivalent Achievement Award.
“F–king sting me,” Kahan wrote Thursday night (September 19) after the Burlington, VT ice cream brand announced their new limited edition “Northern Latte-tude” flavor. The fresh mix inspired by Kahan's 2022 song “Northern Attitude” features a maple latte ice cream with graham cracker cookie dough and graham cracker pieces.
The special mix was created especially for Thursday's (September 19) sold-out show at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds in Essex Junction, VT, a benefit concert with proceeds going to the singer's nonprofit, the Busyhead Projectwhich provides resources and information to help end the stigma surrounding mental health.
“We were more than thrilled to partner with Noah Kahan to create this flavor,” Ben & Jerry's Chief Brand Innovation Officer Emily Smith said in a statement. “With Noah being from Vermont and starting his non-profit The Busyhead Project to support such an important cause that he cares deeply about, we've seen tons of gratitude from fans for Noah's Latte-tude, all while he's doing well.”
The flavor will now be available for a limited time on Friday (September 20th) at B&J scoop stores in Burlington and Waterbury, VT while supplies last. In honor of the concert, VT Gov. Phil Scott declared Thursday “Noah Kahan Busyhead Day” in honor of the singer's efforts to speak out about mental health. Kahan, 27, has often discussed his own struggles with panic attacks and episodes of depression and anxiety as a child and teenager, which he chronicled in songs like “Call Your Mom.”
“It is the most tremendous honor to name September 19th Noah Kahan Project Busyhead Day in America's largest state. I'm going to celebrate by eating Ben & Jerry's, with a horrible stomach ache from being lactose intolerant, and then drinking a Heady Topper as the sun sets over the Green Mountains,” Kahan said in a statement released by the Governor's office. “I have been so lucky to call this place home and I will never forget the love and support 802 has shown me. There is no combination of words, lyrics or music that can fully describe the beauty of this place. I won't try. I'm just honored to be able to live here, breathe the air, exist in this magical place and call it home. Thank you Vermont for this great honor.”
Since its launch in 2023, the Busyhead Project has raised more than $2.5 million in its quest to make mental health care accessible to all.
