Sony Interactive Entertainment's decision to require a PSN login has destroyed any goodwill that Arrowhead Game Studios built up with their fantastic game Helldivers 2.
Friday, gamers, specifically Helldivers 2 fans, didn't have nice words for Sony Interactive Entertainment, the publisher of the Arrowhead game, after it announced: “Due to technical issues during the release of Helldivers 2, we've temporarily allowed login requirements for Steam accounts with a PlayStation Network account to be optional. This grace period will now end.”
According to Sony, the decision was “critical” to its “safety and security.” Helldivers 2.
After the announcement, players were quick to point out that linking their PSN account would result in many players no longer being able to access the game through Steam because some countries don't have PSN support.
Well, those worries are paying off.
Helldivers 2 No longer included in 170 regions due to PSN login requirement
Despite Helldivers 2 community manager assuring players in countries without PSN support can continue to play the game and not worry about being denied access Saturday, the game has been pulled from 170 regions without PSN support, according to entries from the Steam database.
The effects were immediate.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Culture Lahtara notes that Helldivers 2 The Steam page has “over 100,000 negative reviews since then [the] change announced” and that “Steam approves refund requests for players even if they have played for more than 2 hours”.
Like Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt, community managers are telling fans to direct their anger at Sony Interactive Entertainment in the hope that bullying will make the company reverse its lousy decision.
As for returns, Valve is ignoring her politics giving players who logged more than 100 hours of spreading democracy and liberating Super Earth.
Steam usually only refunds players who haven't exceeded 2 hours of gameplay. Honestly, this is a smart decision on Valve's part and an indication of how wrong Sony Interactive Entertainment's decision was.
Players are still sounding off on Xitter over SIE's ridiculous decision.
