Just when you thought ODESZA couldn't get any more blissfully transcendent, they took a 180-degree turn into club land with an unexpected package of plucky remixes designed explicitly for the dancefloor.
Known for their exuberant and cinematic productions, the beloved electronic duo surprised their fans today with the unexpected release, Twist Remixeswhich features reworkings of some of their classics.
“Our recent DJ sets have allowed us to experiment and reimagine tracks for the club, including our own,” the duo said in a statement. “We dove into our catalog and connected with some of our favorite artists to get their edgier take on some of our songs. Twist Remixes The EP is ready for the dance floor and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.”
While the original versions were characterized by aching melodies and euphoric tension and release, these eight remixes strip it all down to the core. ODESZA's melodic flourishes are replaced by roaring basslines and relentless kicks, transforming her signature sound into a barrage of dancefloor ammunition.
Vocals, once the centerpiece, are cut and filtered into percussive hooks meant to whip the crowd into a frenzy. From the languid soundscapes of “Line Of Sight” twisted into crunchy drum & bass to the smooth atmospherics of “Say My Name” reforged as a four-on-the-floor track, each remix offers an exhilarating reinterpretation.
recoil features contributions from a compelling roster of talented artists, including Biicla, Darby, Rome in Silver, Koven and okgiorgio. But it was the prolific electronic music producer who brought ODESZA back for a few seconds.
“I put my heart into the first one when they asked me, and my jaw dropped when they asked me again if I wanted to do another one, since they were so happy with the first one. That's love,” he said in an Instagram post. “I hope you love them as much as I do – remixing songs where the original is so good takes a lot of care and I did my best to keep the energy of the originals intact while adding my style and taste.”
In other ODESZA news, they are about to release their first live album, The Last Goodbye Live Tour. Scheduled for release on May 31, the album will feature live recordings from their self-titled tour and will come with a custom vinyl release.
