From Genesis to Exodus.
The Peso Pluma graced its cover Rolling rockFuture of Music issue on Monday — and in it, he announced that his breakthrough record will follow Genesis with a new album this summer, titled Exodus.
In the interview, Peso shared this Exodus it will be “more of a direct response to the negative press that seems to surround him.”
“[On Génesis] People had already seen the good side, the superhero side. But I think this year, they will get to know a darker side,” he said. “There's going to be a lot of stuff about why we do what we do, and why we sing what we do, why people bash us, why the media always looks for bad things, why people focus more on the negative than the positive.”
He also shared details about the sounds he'll be experimenting with in the new project, saying he wants it to be a “surprise for everyone.”
“I'm focusing on perfecting all the details, but there will be many flavors, not just local Mexican music,” he said. “From the beginning, I liked doing things to get out of my comfort zone. I know everything is going great with the corridos, but I also don't miss opportunities to do other things I like.”
In the interview, Peso also shared that he's been working on the album while dealing with some media craziness and gossip over the past few weeks while spending time in the studio in California.
“Well, the last few weeks have been really crazy,” he said. “People will always have something to say about what I do and create their own narrative. But the reality is that all these days I have been in the studio working Exodus.”
Singer's album of 2023 Genesis anchored a hugely successful year for Pluma, who won a Grammy for Best Música Mexicana album (Including Tejano) for the project, which included songs like “Lady Gaga,” “Rosa Pastel,” and “Lagunas.”
Peso is also scheduled to hit the road later this year with his massive “Exodo” tour that stops at arenas across the United States and at Governors Ball and Coachella.
