Peso Pluma canceled three scheduled shows in Latin America. The musician had planned to make stops in Peru, Paraguay and Chile next week, but pulled out of those shows, citing “personal reasons.”
Two headline shows — at the Parque Olímpico in Asuncion, Paraguay, on February 24 and at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru, on March 2 — were canceled in addition to Peso Pluma's appearance in Viña del Mar.
The event, scheduled for March 1, would mark his first appearance at the international music festival. When the festival announced him as a performer, a Viña council member wrote a letter to Mayor Macarena Serrano asking him to be removed from the lineup, citing his lyrics about “organized crime and corruption, drug trafficking and drug cartels.”
However, the event confirmed that the musician's set would go ahead as planned, sharing in a press release: “After the controversy that arose [about] The participation of Peso Pluma in the upcoming edition of the festival, the organizers of the Viña del Mar International festival declare that the festival will not criticize or discriminate.” María Becerra will move into the now vacant headlining position of Peso Pluma.
The Mexican star's next scheduled appearances include a headlining set at Rolling rockFuture of Music's weekly showcase at South by Southwest on March 13th and a visit to the Tecate Pa'l Norte festival on March 29th. He is then scheduled to perform at Coachella in April.
Earlier this week, Peso Pluma announced the Exodo tour, a massive headliner that makes stops across North America from May through October. Every track the singer has completed so far has only increased in scale.
“It was huge, full arenas, full stadiums. What I enjoy most about it is that every show is sold out and for every city people show up with all their heart and soul. I feel good,” said Peso Pluma Rolling rock last year. “When I have special guests, that's when I really feel how far we've come. When I was a kid, I never imagined having these huge collaborations with people I listened to. Now, being able to have people from different countries and cultures to record with makes me happy.”
