The comic attended the 'Queen of Soul' funeral as a plus one to his then-fiancée Ariana Grande, who performed at the service, and Internet had a day about it at the time. According to Davidson in Turbo Fonzarelliwas high on ketamine at the event and was disconnecting.
“It's embarrassing when you're off ketamine, but … I'm embarrassed,” she tells the specialist. “I was out and about like that. It's not nice, you know? I've been to funerals like that. That's fucked up, right? I was at by Aretha Franklin funeral like this. Yes, I have to live with it. You know what I mean? He'll never know, but that's beside the point. You know what I mean?”
He continues, “If he was there, he'd probably be like, 'Hey, who are you? And what the hell are you doing at my funeral?' It's embarrassing. I'm so high, I thought it would be a good idea to go to her family and say, “Hi, I'm here to pay my RESPECT…”
Davidson, 30, has previously said he felt bad for Bishop Charles E. Ellis III, who awkwardly hugged Grande at the funeral — his hand came too close to her breast — and made a corny joke about how he thought the pop diva was a new kind of Taco Bell, mistaking the Italian-American Grande for someone who is of Hispanic descent. Davidson also confessed that he was “never prouder” than when he thought Bill Clinton, who was also in attendance, was seeing Grande.
Grande called off her engagement and split from Davidson in October 2018, a few months after Franklin's funeral.
