Drake has made his disdain for Pharrell known on multiple occasions with bars from “Meltdown” and “Family Matters” sniping at Skateboard P. The 6 God even bought some of Pharrell's jewelry at the Joopiter auction and turned to P's $2 Million NERD Necklace in the “Jumbotron S–t Poppin” visual.
GQ named Pharrell Designer of the Year for 2024, and at one point in Wednesday's (November 13) interview the Neptunes legend was asked how he felt about Drake melting his old chains, and Pharrell revealed he wasn't all that bothered.
“No, because I think beyond everything going on, at the heart of it all, he's a music fan,” P said of Drake's purchase. “He's a fan of the history of what it is, and I happen to be a part of it, and these artifacts are a part of it.”
Pharrell was tight-lipped when asked about Drake's feuds and how he “beat him up.”
“It didn't happen,” he replied. “No.”
On a larger scale, Louis Vuitton's Men's Creative Director explained how leaving all the jewelry up for auction was his way of disassociating himself from the value of the objects.
“Or not. I guess some things are just not for me to understand. When you let things go, a huge part of it is actually letting go,” he added. “Not just the physical object, but leave your connection to what it's supposed to mean or the memory.”
P continued, “You literally let them go. That was the purpose. It's like when people sell something and say, “I just want to make sure you take care of it because this is my baby.” And I say “No, no, no.” That's not my baby. That's why I'm leaving it.”
Drake jabs at Pharrell on Utopia“Meltdown” with Travis Scott. “I melt the chains I bought from your boss/ Give af–k for all this inheritance,” he raps.
Pharrell even found himself in the middle of the Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud. Lamar stuck around for the blockbuster on “Euphoria.” “I don't like you going to Pharrell, for him, I inherit the beef/ Yeah, f*ck all that P pushing, let me see you push a T,” he whispers.
Drake then responded directly to “Family Matters” when he baited Kendrick into taking his inheritance — in this case the chains — from his mansion. “You wanna deal with Pharrell/ Come take his legacy out of my house,” the OVO boss shot back.
