Premiere: Humbird Shares New Single 'Song for the Seeds'

Humbird is the work of Minnesota musician Siri Undlin, whose music lives at the intersection of folk, rock, Americana and indie singer/songwriter. She debuted in 2019 with her self-released album, Pharmakonand followed the 2021 sophomore record, Dead naturewhich both found her cultivating a reflective lyrical voice and an ear for odd and wintry folk arrangements.
Next month, she's set to return with her third full-length, Right above, which has been teasing a number of new singles over the past year. Today, he's back with the album's fifth single, “Song for the Seeds,” premiering early on Under the Radar.
“Song for the Seeds” finds Undlin paying tribute to the natural world, celebrating the beauty and resilience of the plant life that surrounds us. Unlike the record's previous singles, the track drenches Undlin's vocals over crushing synths and subtle percussion, blossoming from an intimate introduction to a sunny array of instruments. Throughout, Undlin's lyrics return to a reflective mantra: “Through the cracks / One seed at a time / I give back / What was never mine.”
Undlin says of the track, “'Song for the Seeds' is a song that could have been hours—it's an endless subject of consideration: plants and all they teach us. I have spent a lot of time both absentmindedly looking at the gardens and studying the ins and outs of various plants. This song is a celebration of some of my favorite plant friends and also the more I learn from them, the more I get to know them. I realize that sounds pretty hippy, but I don't really care and I don't think plants do either. It's the closest I've ever come to a sort of mantra in a Humbird song, and I'm sticking to it.”
