Music giant Quincy Jones has been laid to rest in a private ceremony in Los Angeles, a week after he died aged 91. A larger, more public memorial service is also planned.
The family of the 28-time Grammy Award-winning producer, arranger and composer said in a statement to The Associated Press that the “intimate ceremony included Mr. Jones' seven children, his brother, two sisters and family members.”
The family did not reveal the cemetery where the ceremony took place. They added that they remain “absolutely grateful for the condolences and tributes from his friends and fans around the world. Details of the commemoration of Mr Jones' life will be announced at a later date.”
Jones died surrounded by his family at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles on November 3.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of the passing of our father and brother Quincy Jones,” the family said in a statement announcing the news earlier this month.
“And while this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
“He is truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed. we are comforted and very proud to know that the love and joy that was the essence of his being was shared with the world through all that he created. Through his music and his endless love, Quincy Jones' heart will beat for eternity.”
Posthumous tributes to him have come from some of the biggest figures in media and politics. Saturday Night Livewho once hosted, paid tribute to him the night before his service with a commemorative photo during a quiet moment on the show.
In lieu of flowers, Jones' family requests donations to Jazz Foundation of America.
