Almost 20 years have passed since then Seinfeld Star Michael Richards went on a career-defying racist rant at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles in 2006. He has since apologized for his outburst and claimed he's not really racist despite the explicit racist rants that came out loud and passionate from his mouth.
Now, he's once again on the apology tour ahead of the release of his memoir No One Asked For, Entrances and exits.
“I was instantly sad the moment I said it on stage,” Richards said People magazine of the infamous moment in which he repeatedly called at least one black audience member the n-word for allegedly picking on him. “I'm not looking for a comeback.” (Well, maybe not, but he's pushing a memo, which makes his little two-decade-delayed mea culpa just as self-serving as it would be if he were trying to make a comeback.)
“My anger was all over the place and it came hard and fast,” she continued. “Anger is a great power. But it happened. Instead of running from it, I dove in and tried to learn from it. It wasn't easy. Crisis managers wanted me to do damage control. But as far as I was concerned, the damage was done inside my.”
After pretending he wasn't making lame excuses citing his “anger” as the reason for his violent racist comments, the guy who played Kramer said he spent years doing a “deep analysis,” trying to “figure out where all the anger was. coming from”, which he identified as his insecurities as an artist, which he later said “the fame magnified”.
Yes OK— or maybe he's just racist.
“I'm not a racist,” Richards asserted. “I have nothing against Black people. The man who told me I'm not funny had just said what I've been telling myself for a while. I felt disappointed. I wanted to put him down.”
For the record: Michael Richards called the “man” the n-word multiple times and implied that he should be lynched because that happened to black people “50 years ago.” (If you're not familiar with the scandal, you can see for yourself.) One doesn't just obsess over something like that because their anger got the best of them— they already had these words in their hearts.
Richards can keep his apology.
